PowerTel Communications (Pvt) ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of ZESA, is a licensed Internet Access Provider in Zimbabwe, with over 1000 kilometres of optical fibre cable in operation countrywide, having a backbone capacity of STM 16. We were the FIRST Company to offer state of the art Fibre Optic SDH Transmission System (STM16) Harare – Plumtree route (We are a Carrier of Carriers). Our Vision is to be the preferred ICT services provider to customers in Zimbabwe, and globally.
The core business of PowerTel Communications (Pvt) Ltd is to provide world class ICT connectivity services in Zimbabwe. Unlike fibre network from other competitors PowerTel’s fibre is hung on high voltage pylons. This high voltage path is therefore less susceptible to vandalism. The positive implication here is higher network availability and reliable support to customer business operations. Competitors have their fibre installed underground and is therefore susceptible to theft, vandalism and attacks by rodents. This impacts negatively on network availability, company image and customer loyalty. PowerTel’s method of installation serves two purposes namely powerline earthing & optical fibre transmission. The optical ground wire (OPGW) as it is universally known is not only environmentally friendly, but safe from vandalism, hence the high reliability that prevails in the PowerTel network.
PowerTel Communications is the hub of ICT solutions in Zimbabwe and also the FIRST to offer Unrivaled 3G Broadband Wireless Internet Access (Mobile Internet) in Zimbabwe and now we have done it again! We are the FIRST to connect Zimbabwe to the Global Internet Village through Optic fibre to the submarine cable systems straight into Global Internet Exchange.
The deal with Botswana Telecommunications Communications will have a major impact in as far as internet speed is concerned and is a major milestone in changing the perception of the quality of internet and ICT services in general. The Zimbabwe population will now enjoy more global services (e-education, e-commerce & e-world services) where there is internet connectivity. Currently most of the internet bandwidth for Zimbabwe is coming from satellite services or terrestrial microwave links. These have limitations on capacity and quality of service. The connectivity to BTC is through optical fiber which has “unlimited” bandwidth and excellent quality of service as it is linked to other submarine cable systems like SeaCom, SAT3, EASSY, WACs etc.The service comes with speed, more efficiency and cost effective for the ultimate user. Because of limited capacity of satellite bandwidth, the cost of bandwidth is high, with bandwidth delivered by optic fibre there is economies of scale resulting in lower cost of bandwidth into the country ultimately translating to lower internet usage charges. We believe that customers will get huge spinoffs of lower tariffs for high quality service.
